7 Day Mount Kenya Climbing Off Trail (Burguret Route)

Day 01: Depart Nairobi after breakfast and drive north past divergent agricultural lands and landscapes to the slopes of Mount Kenya. After lunch at the base camp you take part in some easy acclimatization nature walk around this predominantly Kikuyu area, exploring local farms and villages and perhaps local schools. We can gain a privileged insight into the lives of the people who live on the slopes of Mt Kenya and know a bit of their culture and history.Dinner and overnight at base camp/hotel(2000m)

Day 02: After breakfast,you will get a pre-briefing from your guide,equipment check and meet other mountain clews each one gets a personal porter and there are extra porters for camping equipment and food.Thereafter drive to Gathiuru forest station via the renowned Mau Mau caves.after picnic lunch you will start a 4 hours(10km) ascent through dense stands of bamboo forest canopy arriving at Giant Bamboo camp in the late afternoon for dinner and ovenight (2600m)

Day 03: The luxuriant bamboo yields to enormous podocarpus and pencil cedar forest before we climb to the hagenia rosewood zone at the edge of the moorlands. This marks our lunch spot before heading up through the extraordinary giant lobelia and groundsels. We spend the night close to the sheer lava cliffs.Todays hike takes 5-6 hours(10km) then dinner and overnight(3700m)

Day 04: After breakfast is another 10km hike..You will experience Spectacular scenery as the jagged volcanic peaks and shimmering glaciers tower above our trek around the summit circuit. Turquoise tarns nestle in the valleys, eagles and buzzards soar overhead. We might, for the first time, meet other trekkers here as we hike for 5-6 hours to overnight at Shipton’s camp.then dinner and overnight(4200m)

Day 05: “This being the summit day”After the the wilderness experience comes the highlight of the Mount Kenya trek: the stiff, but exhilarating, scramble by starlight up to Point Lenana(Trekkers peak) in time to see the African dawn from a vantage point of 4985m. We leave at 3:00am and climb  to the peak in 3-4 hours.A further 3 hours down to a late breakfast by Hall Tarns in the magnificent Gorges Valley. Then another 3 hours down past spectacular views to Roadhead campsite for dinner and overnight just next to Nithi river(3300m)

Day 06: After breakfast you will take a guide tour to the famous nithi falls then descend through the forest zone for approximate 3 hours to chogoria gate campsite/bandas.Here you will exprience you first cold beer as  well as a hot shower.All meals and overnight in the camp(2900m)

Day 07: Descent on a broad track for about 10 kms through bamboo and virgin rain forest to meet your car to drive back to Nairobi arriving there in the late afternoon.
